Happy & Sad News

On Friday I was blessed with the arrival of a little palomino colt, with four white sox, a big round star and a snip. He was 13 days early, so he is a little thin, but seems to be doing well. He was born at midday, and I watched him get his feet! It was so exciting and I was just rapt to get another palomino.

I had our State Championship show on the weekend, The main part of the show on Saturday, my mare went High point horse of the show, so we had a great day.

The sad news is on my rounds early Sunday morning, feeding and checking all the gang before heading off to the show I found our Stallion with a broken hind leg. He had snaped it right above the hock, and it was sitting out at such an angle there was no second guessing that it was broken. We called the vet and she was able to get out within half an hour to put him to rest. It was a very hard day. I feel so empty, I think I am still in a bit of shock too, Our padocks are all flat, there are not holes or anything for him to have fallen into. The vet seems to think he may have just spun around the wrong way, as he was an active boy, and often played up and down the fence line watching the mares.

Its so hard loosing any horse, but finding him this way leaves you feeling so helpless, there was nothing we could have done to prevent what happend, nor was there any choice but to put him to rest, I just think how lucky we are that we were able to bury him on our property, so he is resting peacefully now.

I guess it goes to show how we must treasure every moment with our precious friends, not take them for granted, they really are a gift.
